Project Overview
Melissa Oakleigh
Visual Design
The design is modern, vibrant, and image-driven, perfectly capturing the “Modern Greek” culinary experience. The layout uses high-quality, professional food and interior photography to make the experience feel tangible. A clear, elegant font is used for headings, while the body copy is clean and readable, creating a premium yet welcoming atmosphere.
User Experience
The user’s journey is built around the primary actions of a restaurant-goer.
- Action-Oriented Navigation: The main header immediately presents the three most important user actions: “Book Now,” “Menu,” and “Order Online.” This is a highly effective, conversion-focused design.
- Brand Storytelling: The site immediately builds on its heritage with phrases like “Iconic Greek café in Melbourne since 1969” and “Where Tradition Meets Innovation.”
- Comprehensive Service Showcase: The design effectively communicates that the restaurant is an all-day destination, with sections for “breakfast,” “lunch,” “dinner,” “cocktails,” and “artisanal pizzas.”
Project Objective
To design a vibrant, comprehensive, and enticing website for Melissa Oakleigh, an iconic Greek restaurant and café. The website needed to capture the “Essence of Greece,” showcase its long-standing history (since 1969), and streamline key user actions: booking a table, viewing the menu, and ordering online

Key Features
- High-Impact Hero Section: A visually rich hero section with a clear headline (“Experience the Essence of Greece”) and immediate access to the three main calls-to-action.
- “Sticky” Triple-CTA Header: The “Book Now,” “Menu,” and “Order Online” buttons are the most prominent and persistent elements, guiding users to a conversion at all times.
- Visual Menu/Gallery: The site uses a dynamic photo grid (showing “oakleigh cakes,” “oakleigh cocktails,” “oakleigh brunch”) to visually sell its offerings, which is far more enticing than a simple text list.
- Clear Value Proposition: The “Savor the flavors of Greece” section clearly describes the restaurant’s culinary philosophy (“Modern Greek cuisine and delectable sweets”).
- Strong Social Proof & CTA: The site builds trust by mentioning it is “cherished by locals and celebrities alike” and includes a strong, direct “Book Now” call-to-action.
Outcome
The website successfully functions as a lively and effective digital front-of-house. It beautifully balances the brand’s long-standing, traditional history with a modern, vibrant, and accessible user experience. The persistent and clear calls-to-action make it incredibly easy for a user to go from casual browser to paying customer.
Target Audience
The site targets a wide range of diners in the Oakleigh area, from those seeking a quick breakfast or coffee to those looking for a full dinner, cocktails, or catering. It appeals to both new customers and the established local community that knows the brand.
